Adele announces comeback single ‘Easy On Me’ and fans are beside themselves

Set your alarms... because Adele is returning with new music.

The Grammy Award-winning singer has announced her long anticipated comeback single Easy On Me which will be released next week on Friday, October 15.

To announce the big news, the popstar has released a 21-second teaser clip of the music video, and fans are ecstatic that they’re finally getting new Adele music, after a six-year wait.

During the clip that was posted on her social media accounts, the opening bars of the piano-led track can be heard while a black and white clip shows the 33-year-old inserting a cassette tape into the car stereo while driving down a country road. Pieces of paper fly out of the window, before the music cuts out. No vocals are heard.

In the run up to the announcement, the singer’s social media accounts were updated with a blue and turquoise pattern for her display picture.

Fans have also speculated the new album will be called 30 after dozens of billboard with this number were projected onto famous landmarks around the world, namely France, Italy, Dubai, Germany, Ireland, the US, (and of course) the UK, with “#Adele30” trending on Twitter.

In a 2019 Instagram post, Adele hinted a possible fourth studio album would be titled 30, after she jokingly told fans: “30 will be a drum and bass record to spite you all.”

All her previous albums have been named the aged she was when she made them - 19, 21, and 25

The single marks Adele’s return to music after a six-year break, with her last studio album being the chart-topping 25 that was released in 2015.

Fans can’t quite believe the wait is finally over and have shared their excitement at the new single announcement.

After watching the music video teaser, fans shared their love for Adele’s iconic winged eyeliner, along with the use of the black and white filter that featured in her previous music video Someone Like You from her critically acclaimed album 21.

Meanwhile, others noted how the singer is truly keeping in theme with her love of old-fashioned technology as she uses a cassette tape to listen to music in the music video teaser.

Many have compared this to her using an old flip-phone in the 2015 music video Hello.

Adele joins Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves and Lana Del Rey in releasing music in the autumn which, due to their melancholic music some, have now been dubbed as “Sad Girl Autumn” (or “Fall” for our American friends).

Taylor Swift fans are even speculating she brought forward the release of Red (Taylor’s Version) by a week to November 12, because November 19 is when Adele’s new album might be released.

Adele announced her split from charity boss Simon Konecki in April 2019 and their divorce was finalised in March this year. The pair share custody of eight-year-old son Angelo.

She recently made headlines after becoming Instagram official with boyfriend Rich Paul who is an American sports agent.
