Vladimir Putin really did call Elton John this time and offer to meet up

Vladimir Putin has called Sir Elton John and agreed to meet him and this time it’s for real.

After Sir Elton posted on Instagram last week, thanking Mr Putin for calling him, two Russian pranksters admitted it was they who had actually called the singer-songwriter.

Mr Putin was claimed to have told Sir Elton John:

Please don’t be angry with them.

Sir Elton is currently on tour, set to begin the United States leg in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on 2 October. Putin spoke over the phone with him on Thursday.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said:

Putin called him and said, ‘I know you were pranked by those telephone guys, don’t be offended by them, they’re harmless, but that of course doesn’t excuse them’.

And Putin said he knows how popular a performer Elton John is. If in the future their schedules allow, he’s ready to meet with him and discuss any questions that interest him.
