'Fat Vincent' the dog's weight loss journey will give you goals

'Fat Vincent' the dog's weight loss journey will give you goals

Seven-year-old dachshund Fat Vincent recently lost his owner, and well, he’s packed on the pounds a little.

The average weight for a dog his size is between 4kg and 10kg, but poor Vincent weighed in at 17kg, and with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 62.7, he was at risk for a whole host of health issues, including impaired mobility, kidney disease, arthritis and a shortened life span.

Enter K-9 Angels Rescue in Houston, Texas.

Melissa Anderson, Fat Vincent’s foster carer, along with the rest of the team at K-9 put him on a strict diet, a swimming regime, and when he had lost a little bit of weight, walking for one hour five or six times a week.

Vicent even managed to get sponsored by dog food brand Royal Canine, which helped him with his diet.

Speaking to Fox31 Denver, Melissa said:

He loves his walks, he waits by the door after breakfast every morning.

Fat Vincent is not so fat anymore, after having lost almost 10kg, and weighing a svelte 7.7kg.

Of the weight loss, Melissa said:

He is the sweetest, funniest, happiest guy now.

Look at those eyes. Aww.
