Simon McCoy hails Alex Beresford as his ‘new hero’ following Piers Morgan showdown

The BBC’s Simon McCoy has labelled Good Morning Britain’s Alex Beresford his new “hero”, following Piers Morgan’s diva storm off the set while discussing the latter’s highly criticised comments about the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry interview

McCoy is no stranger to potentially unprofessional blunders himself, taking a rather laid back stance on news reading, however, one could never describe him as aggressive.

Instead of veering on obsessive rants about royals, he takes a more relaxed approach to broadcasting and is known for eye-rolling at sycophantic royal coverage, like too much emphasis on royal baby announcements.

His emotions often flow freely, like when he giggled like a schoolgirl over a package about goat yoga, however, no one could accuse him of needing to run off-screen like Morgan, who stormed off while on air.

He uses his Twitter account to post funny quips about current affairs.

Users have tweeted their adoration of the often non-conventional news anchor.

His new hero Alex Beresford, Morgan’s long-suffering colleague, finally gave him a taste of his own medicine, telling him to get a grip, evoking the memory of Harry walking behind his mother’s coffin at her televised funeral, and labelling him “diabolical”

Beresford said, “We all need to take a step back. I understand you don’t like Meghan Markle, you’ve made that so clear, a number of times... I understand you have a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off, I don’t think she has, and yet you continue to trash her...”

At this point, Morgan got up from the large desk and walked off. Yesterday, Morgan used presenting duties to publically state that Meghan Markle was lying about experiencing suicidal thoughts. Meghan’s mental health crisis was one of a number of shocking claims made by the royal couple.

Beresford also earned praise from McCoy’s BBC colleague Emily Maitlis, who called his composure in the moment ‘superb.’

Beresford is not the only person criticising Morgan. People such as Trisha Goddard and Dr. Shola Mos Shogbamimu have also given told the presenter he has no right to be so vocal about issues he knows nothing about.
