People all over the US are taking to the streets to show their anger over what is perceived to be the unlawful killing of Philando Castile in Minnesota and Alton Sterling in Louisiana in yet more violence committed by the police against black people.

The hashtag #BlackLivesMatter appears to be a permanent fixture on Twitter and Facebook as the topic of police brutality refuses to fade from the public conscience.

Across the pond British people, in solidarity marched in south London’s Brixton roads and on Oxford Street and Westminster in central London on Saturday and Sunday, halting traffic and bringing streets to a standstill.

It isn’t just US police who have deaths to answer for though.

The following Facebook post serves as a grim reminder of the actions of our own police:

Unfortunately, this is what people seem to forget. I have read a lot of statuses talking about 'I am so glad I live in the UK where this wouldn't happen...' The Naivety is just too much! Please please educate yourself! Truth is, from India to America and all the places in between like the UK and France, the human rights of Black people are being violated ALL THE TIME! Also, the reason why we must show solidarity regardless of the fact that most of the coverage is in America is because they do not and won't discriminate when mistreating/shooting us! They won't say 'Oh wait, she/he is black British...' NO, all they and everyone else see around the world is our beautiful melanin and obviously it is too much to handle and equalled to a threat in their minds 😔 So open your eyes people, the war on black people is worldwide!

The sign in the picture reads:

The UK is not innocent.

The damning statement is followed by a list of the black British citizens who have died at the hands of law enforcement, including Mark Duggan and Alton Manning.

Lest we forget.
