Here at indy100 we love language maps.
A map recently shared to a popular mapping subreddit has been turning a few heads online for a pretty elegant representation of languages across the continent of Africa.
Take a look:

The conversation about how languages have spread across the continent and overlap territories on the continent developed in the comments:
The principle languages on the continent are Arabic, French and English, thanks to colonisation, but the most common African languages are Swahili, Amharic, Yoruba and Oromo.
Swahili is the most spoken language, with over 100 million speakers and is the official language of Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda but is also spoken in Rwanda, Burundi, Southern Somalia, Ethiopia, Mozambique and the Comoros.
To say hello in Swahili you say:
Jambo
or
Habari
to an elder.
