Brexit day: Twitter is celebrating the fact UK isn't leaving the EU today

If this was a year ago and you were a passionate advocate of the European Union then you would have dreaded March 29, 2019.

After Theresa May triggered Article 50 in 2017, this was the date, two years later, that the UK should have left the European Union, with Brexit taking full effect at 11pm.

However, after a farcical series of events, Brexit is now no longer happening today. It is now set to happen on either April 12 or May 22 or maybe later - if at all.

To be honest, we don't really know anymore and neither do Theresa May's cabinet ministers.

Yep, it's a complete and utter shambles and you only need to look at the #BrexitDay hashtag on Twitter to get a better idea of the state the UK is in. It's also pretty funny.

Elsewhere on Twitter, pro-EU activists are attempting to hijack the day by using the #RemainDay hashtag and that is a slightly more positive place to be (if you are against Brexit, that is).

Elsewhere, 'Independence Day' is also trending on Twitter, as if to mock the infamous speech given by Nigel Farage on the eve of the referendum.

In case this is all a bit much for you, here is Green Party, co-leader Caroline Lucas with a much more positive spin on the whole thing.
