On Tuesday a 42 year old woman underwent surgery for 12 hours.
According to reports in the Times of India, the patient, the woman ‘Selvi’ had a cockroach living in her nose.
Yeah. A cockroach. Inside her nose. Why?
In other news, all your other fears are totally real.
Selvi, a resident of Injambakkam, Chennai, India reportedly experienced an 'itching sensation'.
Two hospitals attempted to solve the problem, and one tried to pump out the ‘obstruction’ using a water pump contraption.
The third hospital recommended a scan, and attributed the discomfort to a ‘foreign body that seemed to be mobile’.
On Wednesday, Selvi was referred to Stanley Medical College.
Using an endoscope the Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) department discovered the obstruction had antennae.
The Times of India quoted the head of the department doctor M N Shankar as saying:
It was a full grown cockroach…It was alive. And it didn’t seem to want to come out.
After a 45 minute process the insect was removed, but the team had to use a combination of suction and forceps to remove it. Doctor S Muthuchitra stated that suction alone had been unsuccessful, the cockroach had clung to the tissues.
Muthuchitra said they had removed items before,
but not a cockroach, especially not one this large.
Vile.
The report did not specify how the cockroach had got there in the first place, and indy100 does not want to think about it.
