Boris Johnson, the mayor of a city with some of the most deprived areas in the country, has faced yet another barrage of criticism about being out of touch with Londoners.
The Eton and Oxford-educated politician, who has just been elected as MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, was asked by LBC’s Nick Ferrari how much a tin of economy supermarket baked beans cost.
The mayor guessed £1.49 - but a can of basic baked beans costs 24p in Tesco, and is roughly the same price in other supermarkets.
Does Boris’ completely wrong answer show he is out of touch with everyday Londoners or is a tin of cheap beans not a staple purchase for most people in the capital?
We went to the streets around Harrods in Kensington, the home of lavish spending and a safe Tory seat, to see whether anyone knew the price of a can of economy baked beans.
