Nancy Pelosi says not everyone can ask their dad for money in dig at Trump over government shutdown

Nancy Pelosi has criticised the Donald Trump called him ‘insensitive’ to the needs of the people after he walked out of a meeting with a “bye bye” and called it a “waste of time.”

The US government has been partially shut down for 20 days as Donald Trump walked out on a meeting with Democrats after negotiations broke down over funding for the infamous southern border wall.

Nancy Pelosi, the Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives and Chuck Schumer refused to fund US/Mexico border wall, with Donald Trump demanding $5.7bn (£4.5bn).

As the government shutdown enters its 20^th day, Pelosi talked about federal workers, and the fact that most of them are not receiving any pay as a result of the shutdown – something that is detrimental to their lives.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Wednesday, she said: "Federal workers will not be receiving their pay checks and what that means in their lives is tragic in terms of their credit rating, paying their mortgage, paying their rent, paying their children’s tuition and the rest."

The president seems to be insensitive to that.

He thinks maybe they could just ask their father for money, but they can’t. They can’t.

If you don’t understand financial insecurity, then you would have a policy that takes pride in saying, ‘I’m going to keep government shut down for months, or years, unless you totally agree to my position.'

Lots of people on Twitter loved Pelosi's tongue-in-cheek comment.

The meeting between Trump and leading Democrats did not go well. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the president had a “temper tantrum” during a meeting between him, Pelosi and congressional leaders.

In a tweet, Trump’s preferred mode of communication, he called the meeting a “total waste of time.”

Just left a meeting with Chuck and Nancy, a total waste of time. I asked what is going to happen in 30 days if I quickly open things up, are you going to approve Border Security which includes a Wall or Steel Barrier? Nancy said, NO. I said bye-bye, nothing else works!
