Disturbing footage shows Versace executive stopped by police in Beverly Hills 'just for being Black'

An exec at luxury fashion brand Versace has posted a video showing him being stopped by the police for no apparent reason.

Salehe Bembury shared the clip on Instagram, with the caption: "Beverly Hills while Black. I'm OK, my spirit is not."

It shows two police officers standing beside Bembury, who says:

I'm in Beverly Hills right now, and I'm getting f***ing searched for shopping at the store I work for and just being Black.

He holds up a Versace bag to the camera when one of the police officers begins to say: "You're making it totally different..."

They then hand back his ID and say he's free to leave, but the officer continues saying: "But listen..."

At that point the recording ends.

People in the comments expressed shock and disappointment with the situation.

Actor Ruby Rose commented "Oh my f***ing god", while Pose star Indya Moore wrote: "can't even shop for your own s*** while black. I hate the police. all the badges need to be eroded off the earth . sending you so much love. I hope you feeling held today."

Bembury is the vice president of Versace's men's footware department.

Donatella Versace herself responded to the incident, reposting the video and saying she was "appalled" and that "he was stopped on the street solely for the colour of his skin."

The LA police department has been contacted for comment.
