These anti-Israel protesters are doing it wrong

It shouldn't need to be said that protesting the actions of the Israeli government does not involve protesting Jewish people.

But the Cambridge Palestine Forum apparently need a reminder. As Cambridge News report, their planned protest outside a synagogue (really) on Friday evening, the beginning of the Jewish Sabbath, has been cancelled amid widespread outrage and allegations of anti-semitism.

A member of the Cambridge Palestine Forum told the paper they had "agreed to cancel the vigil - it wasn’t meant to be a protest really - more of an encouragement to engage in discussion."

The Community Security Trust, a Jewish charity, recorded more than 130 incidents of anti-semitism in July, the month Operation Protective Edge began - the highest monthly total since January 2009.

In the six months before that, there had been 304 anti-semitic incidents.

According to Met Police data, there were 71 anti-semitic hate crimes between April and July in London this year, compared to 37 incidents in the same period in 2013.
