A photo of a father’s tattoo has gone viral on Facebook - for the best reason possible.

Six-year-old Charlotte, from Taupo, New Zealand, was recently fitted with her second cochlear implant - surgically inserted device which enables those who are severely hard of hearing to gain a sense of sound. Her first was fitted in 2013, when she was just four.

Charlotte was initially told she had a mild hearing impairment, but was eventually diagnosed as profoundly deaf in her left ear. She also has a condition which limits the extent to which her brain receives sound from her right ear.

Her father Alistair Campbell decided to shave his head prior to her second surgery and get a tattoo of the device, as if fitted to him, to show his love for her.

Alistair, who has no other tattoos at present, posted a picture of the implant on Facebook saying it was a "tribute" to his daughter. He told the New Zealand Herald:

This was all about her, not me.

As she grows older, she'll understand the love behind it.

When Charlotte first saw her father's tattoo, she giggled and said it was “cool.”
