Donald Trump appears not to know the name of his own defence secretary.
The president took to Twitter over the weekend to defend the decision to pull troops out of Syria. He wrote:
Mark Esperanto, Secretary of Defense, ‘The ceasefire is holding up very nicely. There are some minor skirmishes that have ended quickly. New areas being resettled with the Kurds.
Trump added, “USA soldiers are not in combat or ceasefire zones. We have secured the Oil. Bringing soldiers home” before deleting the tweet two hours later, presumably after being told that his defense secretary isn't called Mark Esperanto at all.
The actual defense secretary is called Mark Esper and has been part of the administration since July so it's good to know that he has been making a good impression.
The president later posted a new tweet with the name spelt correctly but, naturally, no acknowledgement of any mistake on his part.
People were eager to point out the mistake.
