Fox News panellists laughs at Trump supporter for defending president in his latest scandal

A Fox News guest was laughed at by fellow panellists for defending President Donald Trump’s phone call to a Georgia election official demanding they “find” votes to overturn the state’s result.

A.B. Stoddard, a columnist from the conservative news site RealClearPolitics, guffawed after lawyer Gayle Trotter claimed Trump was a “fighter”.

She later added he was “going to the mat for the over 70 million voters who entrusted him to fight back”.

Stoddard had described the president’s call with Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger as “incredibly politically damaging to President Trump” and “very hard for [Republican lawmakers] to defend” on Fox News’ “America’s News Headquarters”.

In response to the audio, former Democratic strategist Jessica Tarlov added: “I’m absolutely gobsmacked.

“I’m further gobsmacked by the fact that we haven’t heard from every single Republican coming forward with their tail between their legs saying… this is a bridge too far.”

“It’s terrible for America. He should concede. He should walk out that door on January 20,” she continued.

“And hopefully we can put this very dark period behind us and all of these Republicans can atone and make amends for what they have done.”

In a recording of the president’s conversation released by the Washington Post, Trump told Republican election chief Raffensperger he was taking “a big risk” in not pursuing his false claims and added there was “nothing wrong with saying... you’ve recalculated”.

But Trotter, who has previously tweeted a QAnon conspiracy theory slogan, claimed: “A.B. and Jessica just don’t get it”.

“The voters who wanted President Trump to have a second term voted for him because he’s a fighter. He’s a man who fights.”

Stoddard laughed openly again and, when Trotter alleged Joe Biden’s administration has a “radical leftist agenda”, Tarlov joined in.
