Donald Trump asked his 70 million followers how their "409K'S" were doing, and people were beyond confused.
The now-deleted tweet was posted this morning in reference to the stock market being "at all-time high", and the president took the opportunity to shame people whose investments were "only 50 per cent up".
But what is a 409K? Do I have one? Should I have one!?
And why was the tweet deleted?
We set out to investigate.
One helpful Twitter user pondered whether a 409K had something to do with a covfefe.
Others questioned whether it was a type of multi-surface cleaner designed to kill 99.9 per cent of bacteria and viruses.
And a further budding investigator hypothesised a link to the president’s health stats.
As it turns out that a 409K appears to be just a typo. According to Trump's follow-up tweet, what he really meant to ask about was our of a 401(k) – a type of retirement fund account introduced by President Obama and offered by employers with tax-free investment earnings and withdrawals.
But delightfully, Twitter users refused to let it go.
So in summary, a 409K isn’t a thing at all, a 401(k) is a pension scheme, and if you’re American then maybe you should have one, it might come in handy.
