The University of South Carolina women's basketball team have better things to do than meet Donald Trump.

After winning their first NCAA championship in April, the President invited the team to a traditional White House reception for title-winners.

But head coach Dawn Staley said the team were too busy keeping their eyes on the ball to attend. She said in a statement to CNN:

We did hear from the White House about attending tomorrow's event, but we will not be able to attend.

As I've been saying since our practices for this season started, all of our focus is on the season ahead.

The only invitation we are thinking about is to the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

But there may be more to the story, as there was a hold-up with the invite.

Staley told the Associated Press in September:

We haven’t gotten an invitation yet, and that in itself speaks volumes.

We won before those other teams won their championships. I don’t know what else has to happen.
