For just £400 per month you can rent a single bed in this person's kitchen in the depths of London's suburbs

Update: SpareRoom has informed i100.co.uk that the ad, which they say is "another sign of how bad the housing crisis has become", has now been removed by the site's administrators.

In yet another sign that London's housing market is absolutely, well and truly nonsensical, a listing has appeared online advertising a single bed in a house in Kingston.

For just £400 per month, the lucky tenant can sleep on the apparently quite thin mattress which is located in the kitchen. Yes, the kitchen.

"PLEASE notice [sic] is not a room," explains the listing on SpareRoom. "Is a single bed in shared kitchen," continues Joe, who appears to be the landlord.

However, in what is clearly the real clincher for anyone hoping to move in: "You can use your own entrance from the garden, if you wish."

In a further bonus, the listing suggests it's 5-10 minute bus ride to the station. Putting the approximate location into Google Maps also shows that it's in fact a 27-minute walk away to the nearby overground.

For those of you who live outside the capital, it's also worth noting that Kingston is located way out in London's south-west suburbs and is a 40 minute train journey away from central London.

i100.co.uk has tried to contact Joe but SpareRoom's "early bird" system means only those with a premium account can get in touch for the first seven days of the listing's time on the site. Hopefully it won't be snapped up too quickly and we can update you when we hear from him. (We're hoping it's just some kind of joke).

After removing the ad, Matt Hutchinson, the director of SpareRoom said: "This is another sign of how bad the housing crisis has become. This isn’t just one of the most bizarre ads we’ve seen, it’s also a huge invasion of privacy.

"No one should have to sleep in a kitchen, and no one should have to pass through a bedroom to get to a communal area."
