Trump says he 'doesn't believe in libraries' two days after announcing plans to build a skyscraper

Not long after US president Donald Trump shared a video of his proposed presidential library skyscraper in Miami, the Republican told reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday that he actually doesn’t “believe in building libraries or museums”.
Yes, really.
The mock-up, created by the Florida-based firm Bermello Ajamil & Partners, depicts a skyscraper emblazoned with Trump lettering and the US flag, a gold entrance, a gold escalator and a giant gold statue of Trump raising his fist defiantly – an apparent reference to the pose he struck after surviving the 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Trump said of the building: “I think you’re going to see a great one here, and it’ll go up on time, on budget, best location in Miami.
“It’s going to be most likely a hotel, this concept – could be office, but it’s most likely going to be a hotel with a beautiful building underneath and a 747 Air Force One in the lobby.
And the plans have raised eyebrows online, with podcaster Ed Krassenstein asking: “So is he planning on collecting donations and having the government run a hotel for him? Are you kidding me?”
One X/Twitter user ridiculed Trump’s comments about libraries and museums and branded Trump “the dumbest person you’ve ever f***ing met”:
“Trump is so relentlessly anti-intellectual this is hilarious,” another commented:
And a third wrote: “Of course, Trump doesn’t believe in libraries. They hold everything he fears”:
Talk of Trump’s presidential library comes in the same week that a Washington, D.C. judge ruled that construction on his controversial White House ballroom must be paused until Congress allows it to continue.
“Basically he's saying, I need congressional approval. And he's so wrong,” the president fumed.
