Us Brits know it as one of the defining lunchbox staples of our childhood, but amazingly Americans don’t have Ribena across the pond.

They’ve never tasted the blackcurrant goodness because the blackcurrant plant was actually banned at one point between 1911-1966, according to MedicineNet.

Production of the fruit remains limited to this day due to the fact the plant carries a fungus called white pine rust which can destroy white pine trees - an important tree for the country’s timber industry.

So when American TikToker Holly Auna managed to get a hold of the beverage, it’s fair to say she was excited to see what all the fuss was about.

You can watch the video in full here.

In the clip, she says: “As soon as I saw that video I went on Amazon and ordered some Ribena.

“Ribena is made from blackcurrant plants and yeah we don’t have these in the US, I’ve never heard of these before.”

Holly then holds up a large bottle of undiluted Ribena and says: “Okay let’s give this a taste test.”

She gives the drink a sniff and looks unimpressed when she claimed it “smells like beets.”

Instead of adding the concentrated fruit squash to water, the TikToker then horrifies Brits by chugged it the straight from the bottle

Although she didn’t add water as she was supposed to, Holly seemed to like the extra strong blackcurrant taste.

Holly exclaimed: “That’s really good!” and added: “Okay I really don’t like the smell combined with the flavour but just the flavour,” and took another swig to confirm her opinion.

The video since received 5.9m views on TikTok, with over 587,000 likes and tens of thousands of comments from concerned Brits informing Holly to add water next time.

One person wrote: “Oh my gosh!!!! No you need to mix that one with water.”

“The way my jaw DROPPED MAAAAAAAAAAM,” another person commented.

Someone else added: “You chugged it straight!!! My British soul DIED.”

“Some come ready mixed. But this one is definitely one you’re supposed to dilute! The ones you’re meant to dilute are darker and thicker,” a fourth person replied.

Well, it’s a definitely a lesson learnt for Holly...
