For Britons who identify with the political left, last week's election result was a miserable one.

The Coalition government is being replaced with an all-Tory one, albeit one with a narrow majority and it is therefore expected David Cameron will be held to ransom by the rightw-wing of his party.

Cue five more years of harsh austerity, Euroscepticism and further encroachment on the privacy of citizens.

In fact, so bleak are things looking that, in a completely serious press release, "international relocations brand" MoveHub.com says it has witnessed a "staggering 10 per cent rise in enquiries".

This is a really profound increase in requests and we would not normally see a surge at this time of year, as generally people are focused on holidays. On the day the result was announced we saw a huge jump in enquiries and this continued across the weekend.

Spain is reportedly the most popular choice among would be emigrants, with an apparent 40 per cent jump in searches.
