Dad sparks debate by revealing he’ll let his son swear as soon as he can talk

A dad has gone viral on TikTok after he shared an ‘unpopular opinion’ about parenting by stating that he will let his son swear as soon as the child can talk.

In a clip that has been viewed more than 12 million times, Connor Robertson who goes by the name @clothdiaperdad responded to a question posed by another TikToker which asked “What’s an unpopular opinion that you have about your parenting that might make a lot of parents mad?”

Robertson who has more than 87,000 followers and has amassed more than three million likes responded by saying: ”Oh, I’ve got a lot of these but here are my top three.

“Number one: my kid will be allowed to swear. I do not care how old he is and I do not care if it upsets you or your children.

“He is more than likely going to grow up to be an adult who swears, so we might as well let him practice while he can.

“My wife and I actually have a bet on whether his first words are going to be ‘F**k’ or ‘I love you’ because those are the two most popular words in our household.”

His other two points in the video were that parts of the anatomy such as ‘penis’ and ‘vagina’ will be referred to as the actual names and slang terms like “coochcie, dingaling and kittykittymiaowmiaow” will be off-limits. His final point was that toys will have no genders and if his son wants to play with a toy aimed at girls then that is fine.

Many people didn’t have a problem with his final two statements but his thoughts on swearing divided opinion. One person responded by saying: “I agree with everything except the swearing.”

Another said: “I respectfully disagree with everything you said.” A third added: “Your house your rules, that doesn’t mean all ur rules are right though.”

However, the majority of people agreed with him, especially on the swearing. One person responded by saying: “My rule on curse words was time and place around others and could not be used in anger towards someone else.”

Another said: “The sooner children start using curse words the sooner they’ll learn when it’s appropriate.”

A third wrote: “Studies actually show that parents that curse in front of their children, the children grow up into more adjusted adults.”

In a second video of his ‘unpopular opinions’ Robertson revealed that he will not force his child to show affection to someone, even family members, that he does not want to, that physical abuse and violence is not an appropriate way to discipline someone and that being a stay-at-home parent should be recognised as a full-time job.
