Amazon founder Jeff Bezos - the world’s richest person - has announced that he has donated $98.5 million to 32 organisations in 23 US states that are helping homeless families.

The gifts to each organisation received ranged from $1.25 million to $5 million. The Amazon founder and CEO gave the money through his Bezos Day One Fund, which he announced in September 2018. The donation matches the sum Bezos gave to the same causes last year.

But not everyone jumping for joy at the donation.

While it’s obviously good that homeless charities are receiving more money to help vulnerable people, many people aren’t exactly desperate to give Bezos much praise for doing so.

Lots of people pointed out that, in proportion to Bezos’s vast $109bn wealth, the amount he’s donated is tiny.

Also, if billionaires paid more tax, then in theory these huge donations might not be necessary.

But there were also some people who stuck up for Bezos.
