Following the news of the horrific shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh, a crowdfunding campaign started by two Muslim groups has raised more than $40,000 for the victims.

Incredibly, the campaign reached its $25,000 goal in a few short hours and is now nearing $50,000.

The fundraising page reads:

The Muslim-American community extends its hands to help the shooting victims, whether it is the injured victims or the Jewish families who have lost loved ones.

We wish to respond to evil with good, as our faith instructs us, and send a powerful message of compassion through action.

The fundraiser was launched by Muslim-American non-profits Celebrate Mercy and MPower Change. The funds will be distributed in partnership with the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh.

11 people were killed and several others injured after a gunman opened fire at Pittsburgh's Tree of Life Synagogue. The donated money will go towards the funeral expenses and medical bills of the victims, according to the fundraising page. It reads:

Through this campaign, we hope to send a united message from the Jewish and Muslim communities that there is no place for this type of hate and violence in America.

We pray that this restores a sense of security and peace to the Jewish-American community who has undoubtedly been shaken by this event.

With the world still reeling from this barbaric racist attack, it's certainly heartening to see different faiths coming together to show solidarity.
