Carly Fiorina thinks her degree in medieval history will help her to defeat Isis

While most of the world's politicians and security analysts acknowledge that there really is no easy solution to the problems in Syria and Iraq, the Republican candidates in the US are queuing up to offer their ingenious plans.

Donald Trump has stated he has a "foolproof" plan to defeat Isis (but won't tell anyone what it is), while Ben Carson plans to "send in the military". Because that's always panned out so well in the past.

The latest bright idea to emerge from the Republican camp comes from Carly Fiorina, the widely-acknowledged winner of the last GOP debate, who says that her medieval history degree makes her well-placed to defeat the extremist terror group.

“Finally my degree in medieval history and philosophy has come in handy,” Fiorina told a town hall meeting in New Hampshire on Sunday night. “Because what Isis wants to do is drive us back to the Middle Ages, literally.”

Explaining a little more thoroughly exactly how her undergraduate qualification from Stanford would guide her as commander-in-chief, the former Hewlett-Packard chief executive explained that she would work with countries like Turkey to co-ordinate a plan and detailed a number of brutal techniques the group uses.

Every single one of the techniques that Isis is using, the crucifixion, the beheadings, the burning alive, those were commonly used techniques in the Middle Ages so we can’t avert our eyes and pretend it’s an exaggeration that Isis wants to take its territory back to the Middle Ages but that is in truth what they want to do and are attempting to do.

Right.
