Trippy being sober: Chrissy Teigen says she just took her first alcohol-free holiday

Chrissy Teigen has opened up about taking her first vacation since getting sober. “Car plane car lunch lunch car plane another plane another car boat lunch dinner dinner dinner another car another boat plane another plane car HOME!! we haven’t done something like this for soooo long, it made us feel young again,” the Cravings cookbook author captioned a series of photos from Italy on Instagram.

She went onto thank UNICEF Italia and LUISAVIAROMO for “having” her and husband, John Legend, as well as designers Zuhair Murad, Lorraine Schwartz and Jimmy Choo for “allowing her to wear their things.” Chrissy also thanked her stylist and make up team for “making her feel like the Luigi’s mansion character she deserved,” a reference we don’t necessarily “get,” but enjoy just the same.

“But really thanks for making me feel so pretty and helping me along in my quest to have my first sober Italian getaway,” she continued, explaining that she actually “hates the word sober” because “it’s so rehab/medical [sic].”

“Honestly it was so so trippy being sober at something you typically would have been wasted at,” Chrissy admitted, acknowledging it was especially difficult being surrounded by so many young people partying, who reminded her of her younger self.

“That paired with all the crazy hot young models and club dudes and seeing your young self over and over, oh man it was crazy,” she said. “Anyhow I dunno [sic]. I’m rambling. We had so much fun. I didn’t do anything I’d regret and I’m glad I’ll get to remember it all!!”

Teigen quit drinking in November of 2020 after receiving a copy of Holly Whitaker’s book “Quit Like A Woman” as a gift. “One month ago, on my birthday, I got this book from my doctor and friend,”she said via Instagram story on December 30, 2020 — exactly 30 days after her 35th birthday. “I was done with making an a** of myself in front of people (I’m still embarrassed), tired of day drinking and feeling like s**t at 6, not being able to sleep.”

On January 20, just after President Joe Biden’s inauguration, Teigen took to Twitter to express how grateful she was for her new lifestyle. “Just incredible to be here. Sober. I know that’s weird but it’s like...a different world for me. Everything is new and better.”
