It's easy to forget just how many people in different jobs have to work during the Christmas period.

You'll be well aware of emergency service workers and carers, and we don't wish to take anything away from them, but spare a thought for those working on airlines, working hard to get people home to their loved ones or a nice trip abroad at the end of the year.

One of those people is Pierce Vaughan, who works as a flight attendant for the American airline, Delta. Unfortunately for her, she was scheduled to work on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, meaning that she wouldn't get to spend it with her family.

Not wishing to have his daughter spend it alone, serving people thousands of feet up in the air, her dad, Hal, brought a ticket for the flight to Detroit that she was working on.

The heartwarming and selfless act from Hal was captured by a fellow passenger on the flight, Mike Levy, who happened to be sitting next to Hal on the flight and snapped a picture of both him and Pierce and shared it on a now viral Facebook post.

Pierce then later confirmed that her dad had been flying on her staff travel benefits and was on standby for each flight she was scheduled to be on, which might appear to be risky, but came off without a hitch - and he even managed to get into first class on the Detroit flight.

Delta later confirmed in a statement that they appreciated Pierce's hard work and happy that she could spend Christmas with her dad, in some capacity. NBC Chicago quotes their spokesperson as saying:

We appreciate all of our employees for working during the holidays to serve Delta customers, and love seeing this awesome Dad having the chance to spend Christmas with his daughter – even while crisscrossing the country at 30,000 feet.
