Broadway show Hamilton tells the life of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton.

Perhaps surprisingly – since it shows the important role immigrants played towards the formation of the US through history – Donald Trump’s right-hand man made an appearance in the audience on Friday night.

But Trump’s version of events don't quite add up.

While some audience members did boo the Vice President-elect, the cast used Pence’s presence as an opportunity to call on Trump and his administration to work on behalf of everyone in America.

At the end of the show, a cast member thanked Pence for coming and said:

We, sir, we, are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights. We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us.

The statement was written by the show’s creator, director and lead producer, according to the New York Times.

But here's Trump's version of events. He tweeted:

Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theatre by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing. This should not happen!

The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!

This pretty much sums it all up:
