Here's what Kanye West had to say accepting an honorary doctorate

Kanye West, self-styled modern-day philosopher, collected an honorary doctorate from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago on Monday.

Kanye went to the American Academy of Art and Chicago State University as an undergrad, but left to focus on music, hence his debut album The College Dropout.

Dr West was recognised for being "the most decorated and acclaimed artist of his generation," according to a statement from the university.

Speaking at the ceremony, he admitted to feeling a bit nervous but the recognition meant a lot to him. “I am a pop artist,” he said. “So my medium is public opinion."
