Shakira sends fan into a frenzy with new Twitter profile colours – here’s why

Shakira may be topping the charts with her new single, but that’s not the only reason why she’s been causing a stir on social media.

The Columbian pop icon, 43, had been largely out of the spotlight until she announced her latest track ‘Don’t Wait Up’, which was released on Friday.

Earlier in the week, the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer changed her Twitter photo and header to a faded mix of pink, orange and white.

And whilst many viewers took this as a promotion of the record’s cover art, which features similar colours, others found a very different meaning in her choice of imagery.

They noted that the colour scheme was pretty identical to that used for the lesbian pride flag. And so you can guess what that means...

One Twitter user wrote:

While another commented:

However, others dismissed the hypothesis, suggesting the choice of colours was purely coincidental:

Shakira, 44, is best known for hits including ‘Waka Waka’ and ‘Whenever, Wherever’ and has enjoyed a number of successful collaborations with the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Rhianna, and Pitbull.

The three-time Grammy Award-winner has been with longtime partner and Barcelona footballer Gerard Piqué, 34 – with whom she has two children – for 10 years and there’s been no sign of any split.

Plus, since the speculation surrounding her profile art’s “hidden meaning” first erupted, she has changed it to a more explicit advertisement for her new song.

Sorry fans, but it might be time to put that flag theory to bed.
