You may have missed it, but Zayn Malik said something weird about why he left One Direction

Zayn Malik says the reason he left One Direction is because an alien told him to.

In an interview with Glamour magazine the solo artist said "an alien spoke to me in a dream" after he was asked about the moment he realised he wanted to part ways with the boy band.

Malik is just about to embark on a tour. It's just more than a year now since he went on his own musical adventure, and since then he's topped the music charts, gone to the MET gala wearing metal arm plates, and started dating supermodel Gigi Hadid.

The 23-year-old is known as the 'mysterious one'. But, past his anecdote on the alien, he's fairly straightforward in his interview.

Here are a few other things Malik said:

His first failure was "wearing pastel colours".

The first movie that made him cry was "My Girl".

His first celeb crush was "Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen".

And the first thing he does when he gets together with old friends is "this weird thing: we communicate with words".

Great stuff.

Malik also unveiled a new tattoo on Friday. He got a glow-in-the-dark lightsaber. He's a Star Wars fan. Lots of aliens in that, of course.
