Brett Kavanaugh hearing: 12 of the most powerful pictures you didn't see from Dr Christine Ford's testimony

People all over the world were gripped when they listened to the moving, horrifying and breathtaking words of Dr Christine Blasey Ford's testimony in front of the US Senate over allegations of sexual assault by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

In an extraordinary statement, Dr Blasey Ford, a professor of psychology, described how Kavanaugh and one of his friends allegedly pushed her into a room and forced themselves onto her 30 years ago. Kavanaugh denies the allegations.

People in cafes, on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, in waiting rooms, on the subway, on planes, and in universities were all gripped, listening to every word.

Many have posted photographs of people watching to social media, as they were transfixed by watching history unfurl.

Here are some of the most powerful.

Despite NBC's Megyn Kelly claiming that she thought "most Americans are not watching", social media painted a thoroughly different picture.

Further, the top search terms were all Kavanaugh related, according to the online dictionary Merriam-Webster, with the last word on the list being 'indelible', relating to Blasey Ford's response when asked to describe her most vivid memory of the alleged sexual assault, reports the Huffington Post.

She said:

Indelible in the hippocampus is the laughter, the uproarious laughter between the two, and their having fun at my expense.

I was underneath one of them while the two laughed. Two friends having a really good time with one another.

Kavanaugh is currently a Supreme Court judge nominee, however Blasey Ford's allegations have sent the nomination process into chaos.

At least one other woman has come forward with allegations of sexual assault against the nominee, and his future in the Supreme Court depends on whether Republican senators vote for him in light of the allegations.

The final verdict is expected on Friday.
