People are making fun of conservatives' #BeerForBrett toast to Kavanaugh

The US Senate has confirmed Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

The controversial decision follows several sexual assault allegations levelled against Kavanaugh that led to a one-week FBI inquiry. Dr Christine Blasey Ford was one of three woman to accuse him of sexually assaulting her during high school. Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick also accused the judge of sexual misconduct. He denied all allegations, and on Saturday he was sworn in as the 114th Supreme Court Justice – a decision that divided America.

Donald Trump congratulated his nominee on Twitter, writing:

I applaud and congratulate the U.S. Senate for confirming our GREAT NOMINEE, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, to the United States Supreme Court. Later today, I will sign his Commission of Appointment, and he will be officially sworn in. Very exciting!

Kavanaugh’s drinking habits had become one of the many contentious moments in his campaign after a former Yale classmate refuted his claim that he had been an infrequent drinker at university. Charles “Chad” Ludington's characterisation of Kavanaugh was that he drank often, and had gotten into a number of altercations because of it.

Conservative supporters of the judge took to Twitter after he was sworn in and celebrated by posting a picture of a can or glass of beer with the accompanying hashtag #BeerForBrett.

Others used the opportunity to talk about privilege and Kavanaugh's new position

Some Kavanaugh supporters used the hashtag to make light of sexual assault (these posts will not be posted here).

The hashtag wasn't winning Kavanaugh any supporters...
