Kellyanne Conway just accidentally mocked Trump by singing Taylor Swift lyrics

White House counsel Kellyanne Conway tried her hand at singing on Tuesday, blasting out some lines from one of Taylor Swift's new songs, while attempting to criticise the pop star for getting involved in politics.

However, awkwardly enough for her, the line she chose actually criticised her boss, Donald Trump. Whoops!

Speaking to Fox News on Tuesday, Conway said:

I actually like the new Taylor Swift song. It’s called ‘You Need to Calm Down'.

I can sing it for you.

Then, she followed up with a few lines. In her best tones, she sang:

If you say it on the street, that’s a knockout

If you put it in a tweet, that’s a cop-out.

After singing, she said:

I love that!

That basically is Washington in a nutshell.

People on the internet, of course, had thoughts...

This isn't the first time that Swift has got political in recent months. On Monday, during the MTV Video Music Awards, she urged viewers to sign a petition in support of LGBT+ equality, which would bolster LGBT+ rights.

In October 2018, she went public with her political leanings, by making a public post on her Instagram account, pledging her allegiance to the Democrats. In the Instagram post, she wrote:

In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions. I feel very differently about that now.

I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country.

I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG.

I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent.

However, Conway was unimpressed. Speaking to Fox, she commented:

When Hollywood and singers all go political, it sounds in the moment like it’s very popular, and we’ve seen so many times where it backfires and it blows up.
