Back in the day Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were one of the biggest celebrity power couples around.
Spears was a burgeoning pop superstar while Timberlake was a member of boyband *NSYNC at the time.
But the pair went down in pop culture history for their iconic double denim matching ensemble on the red carpet.
Spears’ sister, Jamie Lynn, who played the title role in teen sitcom Zoey 101, recently commented on a picture of the get-up after NYLON magazine celebrated its 20-year anniversary.
The younger Spears sister quipped: “My parents. Divorce is hard.”
The instantly recognisable fashion moment took place at the 2001 American Music Awards.
Britney has previously revealed the couple’s matching look was her idea.
Many celebrity duos have since attempted to recreate Spears' patchwork strapless gown and Timberlake's denim suit.
Singer Katy Perry and rapper Riff Raff styled their own version of the matching look at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, which even received approval from Spears herself.
YouTube stars Tana Mongeau and Jake Paul also donned double-denim and dressed as the couple for Halloween in 2019.
NYLON’s post prompted the latest reaction from Jamie Lynn.
Fans have also been sharing their favourite throwbacks to honour the occasion.
Spears' custom-made dress later sold for $7,199 at an auction in 2016.
Two decades later and the classic head-to-toe denim outfits are still making their mark!
We can’t forget about the bling or accompanying denim handbag and cowboy hat.
