On Thursday night former Liberal Democrat leader Lord Ashdown vowed to eat his hat if a gloomy exit poll about his party's chances in the general election was proved right.
Alas, it was actually over-optimistic about the number of seats the oarty would retain, and Ashdown eventually agreed to eat a hat made out of chocolate.
