As the general election campaign kicks into gear, it has been reported that a Brexit Party candidate has stood down after reportedly claiming that she "came from a star".
Author Jill Hughes was announced as the Parliamentary Candidate for the Brexit Party in the Batley and Spen constituency in October.
Since then, though, campaign group Hope Not Hate has revealed that the prospective MP has number of unusual beliefs, leading The Yorkshire Post to report that Hughes has now stood down.
Posting on social media in 2017, Hughes allegedly said:
I have just come to truly realise that my purpose is to raise consciousness here on earth – I originated from Sirus.
In the acknowledgments for her novel Spirit of Prophecy, which is about a psychic detective in rural England, she also claimed that aliens are in cahoots with the government in a “hush-hush” arrangement.
She wrote:
The E.T’s, some of them less than apple pie wholesome or positive pumpkins, are already here working with our world governments, but that’s all hush-hush for now.
According to Hope Not Hate, Hughes’s author bio also describes her belief in reincarnation, which could explain her belief that she comes from space.
It is not clear if Hughes’ claims are linked to her decision to step down as a parliamentary candidate.
Indy100 has contacted Jill Hughes for comment and will update this article upon receiving a reply.
