Principal is fired after welcoming preschool kids with pole dance show

A head teacher in China was stripped of her title after she welcomed children back to school at the beginning of term with a pole dancing performance.

Hundreds of children between the ages of three and six, along with their parents descended to Xinshahui kindergarten in Shenzhen, in the southern province of Guangdong. They were met with a female pole dancer performing on a flag pole in the courtyard.

Parents posted videos online, showing a scantily dressed dancer spinning and leaning on the flag pole, which had the Chinese flag flying at the top.

Principal Lai Rong told state media that there had been about 500 children and 100 parents in attendance.

It is not unusual for the first Monday in September to be filled with ceremonies and celebrations around the start of the new school year. Pole-dancing however, seemed for many parents to be an inappropriate welcome back.

Journalist Michael Standaert’s child attended the school, and he took to Twitter to announce that this was the final straw for him.

So before our kids got out of kindergarten for the summer, there was 10 days of military "activities" and displays of machine guns and mortars at the door; now the principal has welcomed them back with a strip pole dance on the flagpole bearing the PRC flag.

She's gone nuts.

Parents had complained to the police, and a statement posted on Weibo by the local education bureau said an investigation had found a pole dancing business had been invited to the kindergarten to perform.

The district education bureau believes performing pole dancing for kindergarten children is not appropriate.

Principal Lai told Global Times, a Chinese paper, that ‘a few parents’ had asked for refunds but others wanted to ‘learn a new type of dance.’

Standaert said that when his wife called her, she had said pole dancing was ‘international and good exercise’ before hanging up.
