Chinese state media has announced that “every corner" of Beijing is under video surveillance.
The Beijing Public Security Bureau disclosed to the China People’s Daily that the new system is part of a move to tighten security in the capital, particularly in crowds.
The closed circuit television system, dubbed “sky net”, has been continuously upgraded since 2012, with 29 per cent more cameras operational in the capital this year, compared to last.
According to the bureau, who posted the information on Weibo, officers detained five per cent more suspects this year than last year.
China People’s Daily also released a photo which appeared to detail the locations of cameras in the city centre:
