Despite soundly losing the election and now having less than a month remaining in office, Donald Trump is still trying to overturn the results.
In recent days Trump has reportedly considered implementing martial law and even bringing in the military to re-run the election in the swing states that he lost to Joe Biden all for the cause of overturning the election in his favour.
News of this came about after Trump’s disgraced former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, appeared on the conservative and pro-Trump news network Newsmax, and said that the use of martial law was not ‘unprecedented’ and even made a case for military involvement in the democratic process.
This revelation from Flynn prompted a furious response from CNN host John Berman. Sitting in for Anderson Cooper on Monday, Berman compared the president’s rumored actions to be “the kind of action you see in dictatorships” adding “this is not a drill.”
Berman went on to lament Trump for bringing conspiracy theorist Sidney Powell back into his team not long after she was axed from his legal team that was trying to uncover evidence of voter fraud. Powell was originally considered to be ‘too extreme’ but Trump is now said to be considering naming her, according to Berman “as some kind of election special counsel.”
Flynn and Powell reportedly met with Trump last week to discuss his options and as Berman points out Flynn appears to be serious given that he has tweeted his support for the president to invoke martial law and hold a new election earlier this month.
Present at the meeting on Friday were also Rudy Giuliani and Patrick Byrne, an internet entrepreneur who is apparently ‘investigating the election’ with a team of hackers.
Berman continues by quoting a Trump administration official who called the president’s actions “scary” and that Trump is "obsessed’ with increasingly bizarre scenarios where he could stay in power.
