Woman leaves heartbreaking note with her abandoned puppy at an airport

A woman running from an abusive relationship left behind a heartbreaking note explaining that she 'had to' abandon her adorable puppy.

The unknown woman left her three-month-old Chihuahua puppy Chewy in a bathroom at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, where he and the note were found by staff.

The note said:

Hi! I’m Chewy! My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn’t afford me to get on the flight.

She didn’t want to leave me with all her heart but she has NO other option. My ex-boyfriend kicked my dog when we were fighting and he has a big knot on his head. He probably needs a vet. I love Chewy sooo much – please love and take care of him.

Chewy was sent to Connor and Millie’s dog rescue to be rehomed.

The rescue centre says there has been "tremendous" interest from people wanting to adopt Chewy.

Fingers crossed it won't be long until he finds his forever home.
