Writer Sheila O’Malley shared an intimate story about her life on Twitter. When her father passed away, she found it difficult to cope.
Though she moved into a new apartment, she was unable to take her belongings out of boxes.
So her friends helped her out.
Here’s how:
Sheila O'Malley's father passed away, and her grief was so strong she wasn't able to unpack in her new apartment. She cried for 19 days.
Her friend, David, could see her struggling.
He decided to email a group of friends...
...sent Sheila an email asking if he could come by her apartment...
...and showed up with a 10 friends and food.
Then, they unpacked everything.
There was no judgement.
It was just a bunch of friends, hanging Sheila's pictures...
...putting away her books.
They simply showed up. Without being asked.
Sheila was very moved by it all...
...
And she had a simple message for people: sometimes, it's too hard even to ask for help.
Her friends worked for four hours to help make her place a home.
Sheila added that the plan could have easily backfired - she could have been offended or hurt. Her friend took a chance.
