Goley is a town in north east Texas in the United States, near Dallas-Fort Worth.

The local police department has taken a novel approach to ticketing this year.

Instead of issuing fines, they're issuing warnings and asking people to donate an unwrapped toy to the police department.

The police department say the toys will be handed out on Christmas Eve to children who may not receive presents otherwise.

Jason Jordan, the police chief who took over in May this year, told Mashable:

We've probably handed out a couple hundred.

We will stop handing [the notes] out in the next few days.

This is so the gifts will arrive at the station in time for Christmas.

The scheme has been working - gifts have been flooding in.

Who knew a parking ticket could be so festive?
