Teacher resigns after making 'sniper-rifle' comments about Greta Thunberg on Facebook

An Iowa teacher has resigned after making a disturbing comment about climate activist Greta Thunberg on Facebook.

Last week indy100 reported that teacher Matt Baish had been suspended following the “threatening” Facebook post.

Accompanying an article about Thunberg’s upcoming visit to Iowa, the science teacher posted:

Don't have my sniper rifle.

After screenshots of his comments were posted on the Waterloo Community School District Facebook page, Baish was placed on leave.

The school district's social media policy includes guidelines prohibiting content that "would be defined by a reasonable person as obscene, racist, or sexist," "promotes illicit, illegal, or unethical activity" or "violates the district’s affirmative action and/or bullying and harassment policies."

Now, though, following the controversy, he has resigned his post.

Days after the comments surfaced, 16 year-old Thunberg was in Iowa City Friday along with 3,000 climate activists to demand the city sign a "Town-Gown Climate Accord". She said:

We teenagers and children shouldn't have to take the responsibility but right now the world leaders keep acting like children and someone needs to be the adult in the room.
