The world mourned yesterday at the news that cultural icon David Bowie had passed away after an 18-month-long battle with cancer.

The 69-year-old inspired generations through his music, art and acting, and while no one else like him may ever exist, people everywhere came together to celebrate his talent and creativity.

Everyone saw this amazing gif by artist Helen Green, which was reshared on the news of Bowie's death.

And lots of the best tributes have appeared in visual form, whether new or reposted:

Some of the best showed the Starman on his way to heaven.

Or assuming the role of alter ego Major Tom.

Others simply celebrated his brilliance.

RIP, David Bowie.
