What's worse than a headline-grabbing stunt on Budget day? Doing it two years running

In case the excellent Sky News Budget rap hasn't reached you yet, today is the day George Osborne unveils his final Budget statement before the general election.

We're expecting a raft of vote-winning measures to be announced, but also a desperate attempt to not talk about public sector borrowing or public sector debt.

In that spirit, the Royal Mint, a company owned by the Treasury, announced today, of all days, the final design for the new £1 coin.

All very well and good, but the 'new' pound coin was also unveiled um last year, coincidentally also on Budget day.

If the chancellor thinks we're going to get distracted by a shiny coin, well, he's off his head.
