Whenever you head into a McDonald's,m you always have to think about what condiments you are going to get with your meal.

Ketchup is a definite and maybe barbecue too - otherwise, your chicken nuggets and fries would be as bland as anything.

If you're feeling adventurous, you even could opt for sweet 'n' sour or sweet curry. But that seems like a bit too fancy for our tastes.

So, why do UK McDonald's stock such elaborate sauces, but not a classic like mayonnaise?

It's kinda weird when you think about it, especially as stores in America stock it and after all, it is in a McChicken Sandwich.

There must be a logical reason for its absence. Is it hard to store? Does it go off easily? Do they know something we don't?

Apparently, the reason is down to something less suspicious but still puzzling - demand.

A spokesperson from the fast-food chain told Cosmopolitan:

What we offer in our restaurants is based on customer demand.

We don’t currently have any plans for mayonnaise to be made available.

Do us Brits not care for the taste of the white egg-based condiment, then?

It appears that there is actually a strong contingent of British people who are very passionate about mayo.

So passionate, in fact, that they started a petition to have it introduced to UK chains.

Thankfully, Cosmopolitan does point out that if you ask politely you can always ask a member of McDonald's staff to fill up a cup with McChicken sandwich sauce for you.

It's not exactly an answer to the problem, but it is certainly an alternative.
