Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party has failed to secure its first parliamentary seat as Labour are victorious in the Peterborough by-election, and people are mocking the party leader for leaving before the results were even announced.
Unite activist Lisa Forbes was elected with a majority of 683 in the marginal seat vacated by MP Fiona Onasanya, who was sacked by her constituents for lying over a speeding offence.
A few hours before the results were confirmed, Nigel Farage arrived in Peterborough looking optimistic and even tweeted a smiling picture with Brexit Party's Peterborough constituency by-election candidate Mike Greene.
He captioned the photo: ‘Arriving in Peterborough!’
Given that his party failed to secure a seat, his tweet was swiftly mocked
Mercilessly
"Where's the picture of you leaving?"
Writer Alex Andreou tweeted a clip of Farage making a beeline for the loo after realising his party hadn’t won the by-election.
He wrote: “All you need to know about Farage: When he thought the BxP won Peterborough he showed up at the count.”
Once he realised they hadn’t, he hid in the loo from reporters, then left by a side door before result was announced, instead of supporting his candidate or answering questions.
It was pretty awkward
