According to the latest UN estimates, rape has been used as a weapon against civilian women and children in 21 current or recent conflicts across the globe, including in Syria.

It is estimated that between 50,000 and 60,000 women were raped during the Bosnian conflict in the early 1990s. They are still waiting for justice. The UN has also been implicated with allegations their own peacekeepers were involved in rape and prostitution in conflict zones.
