Batman’s vigilante sidekick, Robin, dropped some personal news in the sixth instalment of Batman: Urban Legends – after he came out as bisexual.

The DC character Tim Drake, who fights crime as Robin, secured himself a date with a man named Bernard Dowd. While fighting by his side, Robin had a “lightbulb moment” where he discovered, “something out in the ether has been taunting you, teasing you.”

Tim later visits Bernard’s house to ask him out on a date, “It’s OK, Tim. You got this”, the DC character tells himself.

Bernard opens the door and, unknown to Tim, is about to ask him out on a date. Tim interrupts, “I’m really glad you got home okay. I was relieved. And I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, about that night. And I -- I don’t know what it meant to me. Not yet. But I’d like to figure it out.”

“I was hoping you would. Tim Drake … do you want to go on a date with me?”

To which, Tim says yes.

Tim Drake has dated women in past comics, but it is now officially confirmed that he dates both men and women. DC fans were delighted about the news and took to Twitter to express their excitement.

One Twitter user was pleasantly shocked: “I’m honestly shocked they done did the thing but they did, and it’s kind of fantastic. The story itself is gorgeous and fun but taking a pretty high profile character who fans have BEGGED to be queer for decades and doing it is. Just great.”

While another called Tim Drake coming out as “inspiring.”

The next issue will be available in December.
